The city of Pittsburgh stands at the forks of the Ohio, the focal point
of the French and Indian War. The War That Made America is the
result of a unique collaboration of WQED Multimedia, Pittsburgh and The
French and Indian War 250 Inc., a consortium of regional historic
sites, Foundations and Educational institutions. The Series is produced
by The War That Made America LLC, in association with Spy Pond
Productions and Ben Loeterman Productions.
In addition to the four-hour broadcast series, tentatively planned to
premiere in Fall 2005, The War That Made America is a comprehensive
Multimedia project that includes a companion book, Web site, innovative
curriculum components for middle school and high school that will offer
new insights as well as new strategies for teaching, and an extensive
outreach campaign designed to engage the public in a fuller
understanding of this important chapter in American History.
The series itself will be a profound departure from traditional
approaches to historical documentary. Combining the power of dramatic
elements, digital effects, and a profound commitment to
authenticity, The War That Made America will be produced in the
region where the actual history occurred. Shot in High Definition 24p
video, The War That Made America will include a cast that is
rigorously trained to work and fight in authentic 18th century style.
Costumes, wagons and horse tack, campsites and forts, Indian dwellings
and trading posts will meet the highest standards of historical
accuracy.
Please come back often to our Web site. We will be adding new content
over the next year as well as providing you with the latest "behind the
scenes" information as the series is produced.
