Eric StangeWriter, Producer, Director of Episodes One and Three of The War That Made America Eric Stange is an award-winning independent documentary film producer, director, and writer specializing in history whose work has been broadcast on PBS, The Discovery Channel and the BBC. His public television credits include Murder at Harvard, for American Experience, the PBS history series. Described as an “historical who-dunnit,” it explores the process of historical inquiry through a compelling murder story, and features the well-known historian Simon Schama; Love in the Cold War for (American Experience), winner of a CINE Golden Eagle and a Chicago International Film Festival Silver Plaque; Picking up the Pieces, one episode of the PBS series Making Sense of the '60s; Children of the Left, which received an American Film & Video Festival Red Ribbon and an American Library Association citation; and Can You Stop People From Drinking for NOVA, which contrasts U.S. and Russian approaches to alcohol treatment. Stange was awarded a fellowship at the Charles Warren Center at Harvard University (2002-03), during which he researched and wrote about issues connected to the intersection of history and film. He lives in Arlington, Massachusetts with his wife, Barbara Costa, and their two children. Ben LoetermanWriter, Producer, Director of Episodes Two and Four of The War That Made America Ben Loeterman has been a documentary producer for 20 years and his work has been recognized with national Emmys for outstanding achievement in directing and investigative journalism, Amnesty International's Media Spotlight Award, and a duPont-Columbia University Journalism award for FRONTLINE's "The Triumph of Evil" which examined the United States’ and UN's complacency that allowed the Rwandan genocide. He has produced numerous programs for the PBS series FRONTLINE including: "Angel on Death Row," a look at the death penalty debate through the eyes of Sister Helen Prejean and the real life characters in her book, Dead Man Walking; "What Jennifer Saw," the story of a white woman's eyewitness testimony that put a black man behind bars for rape until DNA evidence exonerated him; and "Apocalypse!" which chronicled the 2000-year history of apocalyptic belief. In addition, Loeterman has produced several films for "The Prize" series, which was based on Daniel Yergin's Pulitzer prize-winning book about oil; for The Discovery Channel; and for PBS's "The American Experience" series.
