Contact: Karen Farmer White, Vice President, Education & Community Resource Center WQED’s goal for the outreach campaign for The War That Made America is to build awareness of the series and to share the knowledge of local history experts on the French and Indian War with viewers and schools. Partners include the Mon Valley Education Consortium that works with over 100 school districts in the area and the Beaver Valley Intermediate Unit, which is comprised of 15 local school districts and one vocational school. During the week of January 15, 2006, the station will hold a screening event hosted by a local history expert with a panel discussion of academics and experts from local universities, the Fort Pitt Museum, Pittsburgh History Center and the Carnegie Museum. A teacher education workshop will be held at WQED the week of January 22, 2006. It will be led by a local history teacher and attendees will take the knowledge learned and materials distributed, including the Educator’s Guide, back to their respective schools to train other teachers and to engage students in activities related to the War. |
