Contact: Mary Kemp, Outreach Coordinator The screening event/workshop will feature producer/director of Part 1 and 3 of the series, Eric Stange and Jim Wetzler, historian for the series. It is scheduled for Saturday, April 29, 2006 in WLRN Studios in downtown Miami. The goal of WLRN’s outreach campaign is to inform viewers and the education community about how our country actually became a viable nation. The station will partner with the Miami-Dade County Schools’ Department of Social Studies and the local historical society to host a teacher education workshop. The trainingwill provide strategies to assist students on the development of historical re-enactments, writing of plays, poetry and essays, and the creation of posters and art to depict scenes of the French and Indian War. WLRN will also host a screening event of the series for teachers in summer 2006. Presenters will include a local history professor of American History and history experts. The series will also be broadcast to local schools and made available through WLRN’s video library. The station will produce a poster and flyers for distribution at events and provide the Educator’s Guide to teachers. |
