Contact: Hank Johnson, Education Services Associate WGBY's goal for the educational outreach for the The War That Made America series is to use the history of the Connecticut and Deerfield River Valleys as a window into broader themes of American history and specifically to illustrate the effect of the French and Indian War on the region. WGBY is partnering with the Pocumtuck Valley Memorial Association (PVMA), the oldest history museum in Western Massachusetts. Working with PVMA's Teacher Center, they will conduct an teacher education workshop for American History teachers April 28, 2006, at Old Deerfield Village of Deerfield, Massachusetts. The goal is to provide new tools and resources, including the Educator's Guide, to assist them to enhance their teaching of this historical period. Scholar, author and historian Kevin Sweeney, from Amherst College will be a presenter. The online support includes an email campaign and a link to the PBS project Web site on the station's Education Services home page. WGBY will also promote the series to area colleges and universities. |
