Contact: Linda Pharis, Vice President, Education Blue Ridge Public Television (BRPTV) is partnering with the Historical Society of Western Virginia, which operates the History Museum of Western Virginia and the O. Winston Link Museum, to implement the outreach campaign for the The War That Made America series. BRPTV will select a Master Teacher to develop a model lesson plan for other teachers based on the series with tie-ins to regional history and the Virginia Standards of Learning. The lesson plan will be distributed to western Virginia school districts and housed on the station’s Web site. The Master Teacher will also present the lesson and a clip from the series at the Virginia Social Studies Conference and at regional conferences. Historical re-enactors/presenters will also screen the series for the Virginia Social Studies Conference in Spring/Summer 2006. A community screening of the series at the museum will be followed by a discussion the area’s rich local history tied into the era of the French and Indian War. The museum is planning a complementary exhibit and an on-demand DVD of edited series clips. Other activities include featuring the series as part of the station’s public affairs program Blue Ridge Live and sponsoring a school poster contest. |
