Scheduled WorkshopsDetroit Public Television - March 4, 2006The workshop will be conducted for American history teachers at the Detroit Historical Museum and will include a preview clip of the series, a presentation by a local history expert and a guided tour of a related exhibit entitled, “From Frontier to Factories: Detroiters At Work.” WFWA – Ft. Wayne, Indiana - February 23, 2006 and March 3, 2006The teacher training is to be held in early February and will be presented by history professors from several area colleges and universities to present the political and ideological effects of the war on the early American Republic. A second, six-hour teacher workshop will be held on March 3. WGBY – Springfield, Massachusetts - April 28, 2006Working with the Pocumtuck Valley Memorial Association Teacher Center, WGBY will conduct a teacher education workshop for American History teachers at Old Deerfield Village of Deerfield, Massachusetts. Middle States Council for the Social Studies, Gettysburg, PA - March 31-April 1A presentation based on "The War That Made America" will be given on April 1. Further details to be announced. National Council for History Education (NCHE), Austin TX - March 31-April 1A one-hour presentation—“Major episodes in the French and Indian War: Did George Washington Set the World on Fire?”— will be given on Saturday, April 1, 2006 from 11:15-12:15. WLRN – Miami, Florida - April 29, 2006The station will partner with the Miami-Dade County Schools’ Department of Social Studies and the local historical society to host a teacher education workshop. The training will provide strategies to assist students on the development of historical re-enactments, writing of plays, poetry and essays, and the creation of posters and art to depict scenes of the French and Indian War. WQED – Pittsburgh - week of January 22, 2006A teacher education workshop led by a local history teacher will be held at WQED. Attendees will take the knowledge learned and materials distributed, including the Educator’s Guide, back to their respective schools to train other teachers and to engage students in activities related to the war. WXXI – Rochester, New York -date TBAWXXI will conduct a daylong educator’s workshop for middle and high school social studies teachers, co-hosted by the Rochester Area Council for Social Studies. The workshop includes screening a clip from the series and a lecture and discussion led by a local history expert. The training will prepare teachers to use the series and materials effectively with students. |
